Italy!

You guys, we went to Italy! And it was amazing! The views, the weather, the colours, the food, the, well, everything :) The first few days we were at Cinque Terre, five beautiful little villages build on the hillsides of the coastline. The colours of this place are amazing and beautiful bright. The blue sea and skies, green hills, pink flowers and pastel houses. How I wish my hometown was as dazzling as these.

secret pathway

Near our home is a hidden pathway. It is enclosed by trees and garden on one side and a canal and the highway on the other side, what makes it withdrawn from the eye of people passing by. Every time I go for a run, or W and I take a walk in the neighborhood, this is the route we take. It is such a lovely and quiet place in the middle of the city. I like to think that it is our secret path :)

Because of all the rain last month, and the loads of sun the last weeks, everything has started to grow. The banks of the canal are overgrown with cow parsley, and the hogweeds have made a small jungle. I picked some cow parsley to take home with me, and it is now standig in a vase on my dining table. Strange names do these plants have in English, I like the Dutch names fluitenkruid and berenklauwen more, they sound almost fairylike.

A couple of days after I made these photos, all the hogweeds was cut down. So happy I was just in time to make the photos.

more villa augustus

I liked Villa Augustus so, so much, that I took my parents and sister there again last week. Again the food was lovely, salad with swordfish or guinea fowl, and home made fries. The weather wasn't as good as we all had hoped for, so we lunched inside instead of in the garden. In the end it didn't made any difference on this lovely day.

villa augustus

A couple of weeks ago we visited Villa Augustus, a restaurant (and hotel) in Dordrecht. I knew they have several gardens, and while I'm always in for trying out new restaurants, I was also very curious for their gardens, now that I'm in my garden fase (as you might have noticed :).

It was a sunny day, so we lunched outside on the terrace, where you can overlook the vegetable gardens. The food was delicious and special, I had a salad with pansies and octopus terrine, yum. After our lunch we wandered through the gardens and enjoyed the views and the sun.

And if you ever visit Villa Augustus, don't forget to take a look at their market shop! They sell the most lovely things, from notebooks, to tableware, childrens toys and supplies for your garden. Especially the bookcorner was a fun suprise, as they are one of the few shops that sell my father's children's books :)

On the last photo's you can see the wisteria that covers the building of the restaurant. Two of the photo's show the wisteria last month, when WJ and I visited and the wisteria still had flower buds. The other two show the wisteria in full bloom, as I visited the place last week again, see next post!
